I am excited to bring you JustFaith Ministries’ 2021 Annual Report. As you read this report, I hope that, wherever you find yourself in these pages, you know how grateful we are to have you as part of our JFM community. Whether you participated in a JustFaith Ministries program last year, joined the JustFaith Network, or made a donation to support our shared work of building a more just, equitable, and peaceful world in 2021… we are grateful for your part in making this world a little bit better for everyone. As we look forward to the coming year, we know there is so much more we can do together - to inspire new individuals and communities to the transformative work of peace and justice. Thank you for standing with us in this mission and work.

This year, JustFaith Ministries has been hard at work updating our “look” and reflecting on who we are as an organization. We still offer the same social justice programs for small groups that you have come to know and love. We still have a robust JustFaith Network where you can connect with other folks around the country who have taken our programs. And we still create meaningful and action-driven events every month so you can hear from speakers around the country on social justice topics. Our updated mission and vision statements are:
- Vision: JustFaith Ministries envisions justice-driven communities advancing peace, racial equity, and a sustainable world.
- Mission: JustFaith Ministries creates transformative programs that inspire action to address the root causes of injustice while serving with love.
a new day for
JustFaith Graduates are making a difference around the country
JustFaith Graduates and VCRJ members, Abby Causey, Joan Kennedy, and Cathy Woodson with Dr. Shannen Dee Williams, author of Subversive Habits.
After completing the JustFaith Racial Justice series, graduates in Virginia Beach, VA wanted to take action in their community. They decided to form Virginia Catholics for Racial Justice. The group is dedicated to educating the Virginia Beach community on the legacy of racial inequity in their region. They produced a toolbox of resources for acknowledging and confronting racial injustice in their community; hosted speakers, workshops and opportunities for dialogue; and are planning opportunities for celebration and education during Black Catholic History Month in November 2022. Their mission statement reads:
"Bound by the tenets of our faith, we confront racism with love by listening, learning, and acting in God’s grace to build an anti-racist church.”

New Spiritual Programs are
Reaching a Broader Audience
In 2022, we launched "spirituality" versions of our racial justice series and "Want to Talk? Communications Tools for Divided Times." These more broadly spiritual versions of our programs are designed for those who may not be sitting in churches, who identify as “spiritual but not religious,” or who are disengaged or disenfranchised from organized religion. (Part of our Christian identity means pulling up more chairs to our programmatic table!) We're excited to inspire a whole new audience to work for peace, justice, and sustainability with these new programs.

In addition to our 8-10 session programs, JustFaith Ministries held a number of online events in 2021 to extend opportunities for education about important issues facing our communities. This includes our monthly Acting for Justice series. We also held a celebration of our 20th Anniversary by honoring graduates inspired to action in their communities and around the world thanks to JustFaith programs.

Events
JFM is committed to seeking racial justice in all areas of our work. For us, this means examining everything we do as an organization. In 2021, JFM engaged the Racial Healing Project (RHP) in a year-long contract to facilitate an anti-racism organizational change process. While our programs offer anti-racism education and formation through the lens the Christian tradition, we also want to live out our anti-racist values as a staff and board. We believe that to achieve racial equity, we must recognize and eradicate structural racism, which is at the core of economic, political, and social oppression. This means first looking internally at our own power and privilege and identifying any existing imbalances of power within our JFM organization.
This process is being conducted deliberately and with intentionality, to ensure comprehensive strategies that will help us successfully transition to becoming an anti-racist organization. We look forward to sharing this process with you as it evolves.
